CLAST Remediation Requirements
If you are unsuccessful in any part of the CLAST exam on your first attempt, you must complete the remediation as outlined below:
SECOND ATTEMPT - You must pass the online practice test and bring a copy of the completed practice test to the Test Center before you will be eligible to retake the CLAST exam. Please contact Jane Duke at 484-1659 or jduke@pjc.edu to request a password for the online practice test. There are four practice tests online for each subject area. For preparation, you can review at one of the labs or use the CLAST prep book found in the LRC.

THIRD ATTEMPT - Before testing the third time, you must pass a practice test in the area in which you are pursuing a passing score. If you are unsuccessful, an analysis sheet of items to be mastered and a remediation sheet are given for remediation and documentation by the appropriate lab listed above. The completed remediation sheet is signed by the lab supervisor and you must return it to the Test Center. You may retake the practice test and upon passing, schedule to retake the CLAST exam.
FOURTH ATTEMPT - You have two options before testing the fourth time: Enroll in one of the essential skills classes and pass the course before retaking the CLAST exam. The essential skills classes are listed in the PJC Schedule booklet each semester. Take the ACT or SAT to possibly exempt the CLAST.
FIFTH ATTEMPT - You should complete the option that you did not try on your fourth attempt. If you are unsuccessful on your fifth attempt, you are encouraged to apply for a waiver.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
PJC will not give a waiver to students who have not followed this remediation plan completely and documented that the plan was followed.
If you wish to retake the CLAST exam without following the remediation plan, you must submit a written statement of your understanding that by choosing to take the CLAST without following the remediation plan, you may not apply for a waiver.
If you need to retest in more than one section, concentrate on passing one section at a time. When that section is passed, then move to the next. It is recommended that students retake one section of the CLAST at a time.
