The PJC gym was officially renamed the Louis A. Ross Health and Sports Center on September 23, 1988, honoring the professor, registrar and first head basketball coach Lou Ross. Coach Ross was instrumental at Pensacola Junior College athletically and academically.
The Ross Center has a total of 11,500 square feet of floor space with the lower levels retracted, and a maximum seating capacity of 1,000.
The Ross Center is also home to the athletic department administrative offices, the athletic ticket office, an indoor swimming pool, and intercollegiate and intramural locker rooms. The Donn Peery Hall-of-Fame room that was established on February 15, 2000 in honor of longtime athletic director.
This multi-purpose facility hosts graduation ceremonies and other events including the County History Fair, the PJC Summer Dance Workshop and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Banquets. Candidates Bob Dole and Dick Cheney greeted supporters in the Ross Center during presidential campaigns.
