Coach Pete PenaPJC Lady Pirate Season Outlook 2007-2008

Its time, again, to tip off another exciting year of Lady Pirate basketball. The Lady Pirates are hoping that the experience of their six returning sophomores coupled with the talent of the seven incoming freshmen will provide a good mix for the 2007-2008 season.

The sophomore class is expected to provide strong leadership both on and off the court. Point Guard, Kristian Diggs, and shooting guard, Victoria Hunt, were voted All-Panhandle Conference last season, and return as two of the best players in the conference. All six sophomores saw considerable playing time last season, and understand the speed of the game. Though their experience on the court will be valuable, their commitment to leadership off the court will be just as important to the Lady Pirate family. This group of six student athletes returns to PJC after posting an impressive combined 3.45 GPA last year. Rigby feels that this is a good precedent to set for the freshmen. “It teaches that we put academics first here at PJC, and that we give our best effort on the court as well as in the classroom,” Rigby stated.

The incoming freshmen are a talented group that will be exciting to watch. They embody a style of play that favors fast breaking offenses and pressing defenses. Their up-tempo personality and skills are a good fit for Panhandle Conference competition.

Once again, the Lady Pirates have great players to compete with and have scheduled several of the nation’s top teams to compete against. The Lady Pirates are looking forward to sharing another exciting season with their Pirate fans, boosters, and families.
