Support for Transition to Academic Readiness (STAR)

Welcome to STAR

The STAR Initiative program was developed from PJC’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP is a carefully designed course of action that addresses a well-defined issue related to enhancing student learning. STAR has been developed to help first generation, first time in college students develop strong relationships with their instructors and STAR Advisors. Please take time to check out whether you qualify for the STAR program and how you will benefit throughout your college career.

Star Program Goals

STAR provides first generation, first time in college students:

  • with assistance through their first-year experience
  • with additional advising
  • with developing and carrying out plans to achieve academic success
  • with one-on-one STAR advisors to register for classes
  • with STAR grants
STAR Helps Students Succeed

PJC STAR advisors will:

  • Guide students throughout their first year of college
  • Identify academic problems early and provide assistance
  • Challenge students to leave their safety zones
  • Require students to be involved in their educational and personal growth
  • Teach students to explore and discuss goals for life and goals for learning
  • Help students set short term and long range goals
  • Help students develop realistic steps for achieving their goals
