History

In 1947, Pensacola Junior College became the first public junior college to be established under new Florida law. As the college grew, recognition and support from the community also grew, and the Pensacola Junior College Foundation was incorporated in 1965. The Foundation would be a non-profit corporation that could accept tax-deductible contributions from community supporters.

During the next three decades, the PJC Foundation helped the college expand its campus, through the addition of many new buildings, as well as additional campus locations. In 1994, another important structure on the main Pensacola campus opened its doors -- the Kugelman Center for Telecommunications - providing a new home for WSRE-TV, as well as the Foundation..

In December 1998, the PJC Foundation launched its first comprehensive fund drive. The goal was to raise $4.5 million. A lead gift of $1 million from the Switzer and Reilly families established the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts and got the campaign off to a successful start! And the campaign ended with a grand finale - by the time all the money is collected over the next few years, the campaign will have exceeded its goal, bringing in $5.3 million.

Donations from alumni and friends of PJC make the difference - making dreams a reality for many students. The Foundation's investment strategy provides a maximum return on contributions at a minimum risk. The Foundation ensures professional management and monitoring of contributions to support specific programs at PJC and to observe the donor's wishes. We ensure that 100 percent of every contribution is dedicated to the purpose intended.

Today, more than ever, the PJC Foundation is an integral part of the college.
