PJC - An Overview of the College

Students who want individual attention and state-of-the-art teaching technology choose PJC. Employers who want the competitive edge choose PJC graduates.

PJC is a fully accredited comprehensive community college offering associate degrees as well as certificate programs. We offer credit coursework and continuing education opportunities to individuals throughout our community.

The A.A. (associate of arts) degree assures acceptance as an upperclassman at any public university in Florida. PJC's two-year A.S. (associate of science) degrees and certificate programs allow students to obtain training in a variety of fields and move directly into their chosen careers. Our A.S. graduates occupy a majority of the technical and paraprofessional jobs in Northwest Florida. Many programs have a 90 percent or higher job placement rate. PJC also offers an A.A.S. (associate of applied science) degree. An A.A.S. degree can lead to immediate employment in many high-tech and high-wage careers.

The Students of PJC
PJC students come from a wide range of backgrounds and prior educational preparation. One-quarter of the students attend full-time, but the majority - almost 50 percent - attend only part-time. The average age of our students is 27.5 and 60% are women. Community college students on average fall into the lowest family income of all segments of higher education. Many are the first in their family to attend college. Some are displaced homemakers seeking skills necessary to enter the job market for the first time. Some are the casualties of corporate downsizing seeking new skills for a second chance in the labor force. Many students have only meager means to pay for school. Restrictions placed on public financial aid programs limit our students' ability to apply for the aid they desperately need.

Offering Flexible Class Times at Five Locations
PJC's Pensacola campus offers a vast array of programs, while the Warrington campus specializes in numerous medical programs. The Milton campus in Santa Rosa County is a comprehensive campus and also shares its facilities with the University of Florida. Students can earn bachelor's degrees in either environmental horticulture or natural resource conservation from University of Florida without leaving the Milton campus. The Downtown Center serves the business and legal community with a large number of credit and non-credit programs. The Naval Air Station Center is a full-service campus open to all PJC students as well as military personnel.

Incomparable Teaching Resources and Technology
PJC's Learning Resources Centers, located on all campuses, are open to students and the public. These libraries contain more than 155,000 research volumes, periodicals and audiovisual materials. Students and the community enjoy fine arts and cultural events at PJC's Visual Arts Gallery, the PJC Planetarium and Theatre, the acclaimed Lyceum Series at the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium. WSRE-TV, the area's public broadcasting station, is owned and operated as a service of PJC.

Building a Unique Learning Environment
PJC educates students of all ages and at all learning levels. We have an exceptional Honors Program as well as a thriving dual enrollment program with area high schools. Countless students achieve their educational goals through our Adult High School. Nearly half of our students attend evening classes and we offer a variety of distance learning options. International students representing 20 countries attend PJC. We are very proud of our college and are working hard to maintain a high level of excellence. We want to be the place where Northwest Florida goes to school!
